Technology Behind EDEN Becomes finalist for East Midlands Innovation Award

Despite stiff competition from 106 submissions from throughout the NHS, health and social care, universities, voluntary sector and industry, EDEN’s database application is one of only three entries shortlisted in the 'Medical Technology' category of the East Midlands Innovation in Healthcare awards.

The Training and Overview Database ('TOD') application enables the EDEN team to book healthcare professions on a diabetes course, write a confirmatory email and send it to them along with a map of Leicester Diabetes Centre all in under three seconds. TOD also monitors course uptake, run algorithms to identify individuals who would benefit from specific forms of training and emails recommendations to them, while also analysing uptake against diabetes prevalence, QOF performance and mentoring levels.

Education Support Manager, Petra Jones, who designed this bespoke application, said, "It's wonderful news and we are very appreciative of this recognition of the efforts of our small EDEN team in the big fight against diabetes".

The winner will be announced by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) on 5th November 2015 at the Awards Ceremony at the National Space Centre, Leicester.
