Healthcare professionals can now register for the Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Management Education Programme, launching in January 2025.

Developed by the award-winning EDEN team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), this FREE innovative programme offers healthcare professionals a comprehensive learning experience to support the effective management of obesity in individuals living with type 2 diabetes.

The programme’s multi-level approach bridges real-world evidence and clinical best practices, incorporating patient voices and addressing barriers to healthcare access. It aims to reshape obesity management and set new standards for first-line care.

The programme includes both patient and expert testimonials aimed at changing the narrative around obesity, as well as round-table discussions featuring leading experts, including Professor Melanie Davies, Professor David Webb, and Dr Dimitris Papamargaritis who explore the disease’s impact and novel therapies.

Animation videos address key topics like weight stigma and holistic treatment approaches, while short online learning modules cover a wide range of subjects, from diagnosing obesity to emerging therapies and physical activity interventions.

Professor Melanie Davies, Co-Director of LDC, reflects on the importance of emerging therapies, explaining: “It is fantastic to have these therapies that can lead to double-digit weight loss now, but that also address co-morbidities that we didn’t have many treatments for before. It is an exciting time not just for weight management but also targeting other related problems.”

Additionally, the programme includes a web-based toolkit which provides guidance on setting up effective obesity services and incorporates tools for tracking engagement and assessing long-term improvements in clinical practice.

Hosted via an online portal, the programme is designed to fit around busy schedules. Healthcare professionals can engage at their own pace, and those completing the programme will receive a certificate on completion, supporting their professional development.
