Preceptorship Training

We are delighted that our programme for newly qualified nurses and nurses new to the hospital trust started at the end of 2018.

The preceptorship training is designed to educate nurses in all areas of diabetes and its main aims are to promote excellence in care and to ensure safety for the many in-patients living with diabetes.

Our highly interactive and engaging sessions cover areas such as: foot care, hypoglycaemia, DKA and HHS, oral and injectable treatments including VRIII, insulin safety and all relevant hospital policies and referral pathways.

The preceptorship training can help form the most important and necessary foundations of safe care for patients with diabetes in hospital. Aligned with the findings from the National Diabetes Inpatient Audit, our aim is to improve patient outcomes, reduce length of stay and cases of hypo/hyperglycaemia and eliminate errors.
